Keynote: Peter Fletcher, The Fundraising Coach
Fundraising is special; Come help me change the world
Fundraising is more about people than it is about money. It is more about the donor than it is about the fundraiser. Hear from Peter on how to bring in passion as one of the key ingredients in the fundraising mix so that we are not just raising money, but we are really changing the world - of our client's and also of our donor's.

The good, the bad and the downright absurdity of the fundraising gala!
Case study: Mater Little Miracles Ball
Have you ever been in any of these situations?
- It’s planning time and the fundraising team adds a gala ball to the annual calendar.
- There’s a budget gap and the organisation holds a gala ball to offset the shortfall.
- A well-meaning committee suggests the organisation holds a ball.
If you’ve been in this situation, what was the net result of the gala ball? The ‘real’ net result that is. The result after all the bills are paid, after you count the cost of all the staff costs, before and after the event – that’s how you count the true ROI.
This session will present a case study of one fundraising gala ball that was held for many years without considering the ‘real’ net result. Now, with a clear strategy and carefully laid out objectives, this event has been turned around and now delivers ‘real’ results, measured against rigorous metrics.

CEO Sleepout: A 2-tiered approach
Case study: CEO Sleepout
The presentation will serve to create an understanding of the two-tiered approach to organising the very successful Vinnies CEO Sleepout. The focus will firstly be on the strategies used to engaging leaders to participate and lastly on fostering fundraising.
Case study: Erin Lawson, HeartKids Queensland
Event volunteers, friend or foe?
Case study: Noosa Triathlon 2013
Volunteers are worth their weight in gold, but only if they are managed correctly. Event volunteers can be the make or break of a good event, recruiting participants, finding sponsors, doing the leg work and much much more, but they can also create high risk and uncertainty for the future of an event. HeartKids Queensland has been lucky enough to be one of the charity partners for the Noosa Triathlon for the last 3 years and to date has been a very profitable partnership, but this year saw HeartKids Queensland nearly come unstuck with continuing on a profitable event.
This case study will look at:
- Risks of a powerful volunteer
- How can a volunteer change your ROI of an event
- Changing from a volunteer culture
- Harnessing volunteer enthusiasm to help with donor acquisition and retention
