Microsoft SharePoint
I want to use Microsoft SharePoint for our organisations intranet. Other than Microsoft SharePoint, what else do I need to run it? Do I need Microsoft SQL Server?

You only require SQL Server 2008 Express (with SP1), which is a free download from the Microsoft Website. The Full Version will make it quicker and remove some limitations on database size (and make your techs happier as they have more flexibility) however you do not require a Full Version of SQL.Reply by Grant Laing from Blended IT Solutions on Monday, 9 May, 2011 - 15:10
Hi, It would depend on whether you want to use the full version of sharepoint or just sharepoint services. the latter still gives you much of the functionality of sharepoint, just not the high end pieces. Whichever way you go you will need the following; either an existing windows 2008 R2 server, which you can add the WSS (windows sharepoint services to), or install sharepoint 2010 on. or new server to install one or the other on. and yes, you will need either sql express or sql standard. It is also good to think how big you want your sharepoint install to be, so you can plan if you need multiple sharepoint servers in the future. if you have any more questions feel free to email us. we also have our own inhouse dedicated sharepoint guy. thanks grantReply by from Community Computer Services on Wednesday, 11 May, 2011 - 14:37
SQL Express is fine for smaller deployments. And best of all, you can always migrate later if you need to. Put your IT dollars into something else.
