What Software path to take
I support a small Volunteer office with 7 pc’s and they have a need for all users to share the same contacts list and have the ability to use a single calendar for users to book interviews or set tasks for volunteers. What would you suggest to use

Hi - two choices, really - either Google docs, or SBS (Exchange / Outlook). Both work well. If you have a small server available then SBS is a really nice product, a lot of nice functionality. If not, then Google docs is probably your cheapest option.Reply by Patrick from Community How on Friday, 17 February, 2012 - 14:01
Depending on the level of technical knowledge in your office I would not suggest SBS unless you are confident you can manage it. I have used http://highrisehq.com/ for NGOs in the past with great success (And it's companion product Basecamp for project management. Google Apps for your Domain is also a good choice, though the contact sharing is not perfect. If you are uncomfortable with hosting this information externally on a third party server you could implement a CRM solution in your office. CiviCRM is used by many non profits, as is SugarCRM. Both require a bit of work to setup. But are relatively simple to use. Particularly if you are not migrating a large amount of data from a legacy system. Feel free to contact me if you decide on the Civi/Sugar CRM route. A final alternative that has recently arrived at Donortec is the Microsoft Dynamics CRM suite. I have no experience with it so can't speak to its suitability for small NFPs
