SQL Server 2008 R2 CALS
Hi Guys, We have a dilemma here. The Donortec website says that no user CALs are needed for their SQL Standard 2008 R2 software. Yet when I have talked to other providers, they have said that the user CAL is mandatory. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

The answer is "it depends". If you're using SBS Premium, for example then it already includes user CALs. If you have external users then you need an external connector licence which entitles non-organisational users to access your system(s). If you're running a per processor licence then you don't need a user CAL for internal users. If it's all internal, AND every user is an AD user, AND you're not using per-CPU licensing, then yes you will need SQL user CALS. Donortech provide Processor licences so you do not need seperate CAL's. http://www.donortec.org/directory/328 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition (Includes Software Assurance and 1 PROCESSOR License)
