Lync server
Some time back we bought Lync Server but our Tech guy is having trouble installing it in a Small Business Server environment. Our guy is very competent but his problem is that he just can’t find any technical information about some particular installation issues. Can you point us in the direction of either someone who has done an installation is an SBS environment or some reference material/sites that can help please. Search as he may, he cannot find any detailed installation information.

Hi There. I have not tried this but i understand installing on the SBS box is not a supported configuration and won't work....See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412831.aspx for the list of supported OS. Supported Domain Controller Operating Systems Lync Server 2010 supports domain controllers running the following operating systems: - Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system - Windows Server 2008 operating system - Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 32-Bit - The 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the Window Server 2003 R2 operating system - The 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the Windows Server 2003 I believe you could install on a separate server but definately not on the SBS box itself.Reply by Donald MacLeod from Ciel Systems on Tuesday, 7 February, 2012 - 14:28
Hi, I installed Lync 2010 Standard in SBS 2011 environment as a test before implementing in a clients production environment. The guide that I used was http://www.ocspedia.com/fe/Install_Microsoft_Lync_Server_2010.aspx?ArticleID=103 . Once you get to configuring the phone system/gateway it get a bit more complex. We ended up engaging a Lync Consultant to finalise the settings. Note: Lync was installed on a separate server as it was for testing only. In the production environment it was also installed on a separate server for performance. Donald MacLeod Ciel Systems
