WORD 2010 hangs on a blank screen on EXIT
We recently installed Microsoft Office 2010 on 7 computers, connected in a Local Area Network and operating under Internet Explorer. Only two of these computers are also connected to the internet. We have found a problem, apparently only with the WORD 2010 portion, on those computers NOT connected to the internet. The problem is that on exiting from WORD 2010 the program hangs on a blank screen for between 15 to 20 seconds, before it returns to the desktop. I suspect that there probably was a program fix downloaded to the two computers connected to the internet, because they do not display the same problem. Is there some way one can get Windows Updates onto computers that are not connected to the internet? Or could there be another explanation/solution to this problem? Any advice would be welcome.

yes, the program is probably trying to make sure if it has a connection to the internet, for the online portion available of office. you could try either a custom install of office on these machines, and make sure you take out the online options. or you could setup a wsus server to update the other machines. Is there some reason the other machines aren't connected to the internet? hope this helps, feel free to contact us if you need more helpReply by Neil McLachlan from Co Serve Consulting on Tuesday, 21 June, 2011 - 15:58
In addition to possible problems with online components, if the problem is removed when Word is started in "safe mode" (by pressing the Ctrl key when starting) then it's possible that a third-party add-in is at fault. The Microsoft TechNet site has a discussion page covering some possible resolution measures: (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/officevolact/thread/7c00370c-02d2-46e4-ad40-08c02dcf0f09) As some involve editing the Windows Registry you may want to get some assistance with tackling them.
