Upgrading to Server 2012 R2

Hi, We currently have a 2 node cluster running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (with file share witness), running approx. 20 VMs. We would like to upgrade to Server 2012 R2. Do we need Standard or Data Centre edition? Any other advice would be appreciated.

Hi, If it was me doing this upgrade I would use Datacentre, gives you a lot of functions, and no licencing costs on top of the standard edition, as you can run as many vm's as you like on top, (assuming you are using hyper-v for your virtualization). You should technically be able to do an in place upgrade as well, just start with your primary node, backup all your vm's, and you should be all good to go.Reply by David Avice from Netrhino Network Solutions on Wednesday, 13 April, 2016 - 17:18
We have done the same at our company and can help you if you need, we are non profit ourselves and our rates are 25%-50% lower than others.
