Web Hosting
Dear MatchIT. We are a small not for profit Tennis Club and currently have our Website hosted on a committee member's work server and our membership (Microsoft Access) database and accounting software (Quickbooks) on a Laptop. Could you please offer some advice on the the most cost effective way of Hosting these applications (On the Web?) so that we are not relying on others to host our website and access to the Membership Database and Accounting system can be made from any PC? Many thanks

Hi There, I would look at Windows Azure, you will be able to run a server in the cloud to host as a remote desktop server, to access your quickbooks and access databases from any PC. you will also be able to host your website on here, i believe Microsoft offer NFP pricing on Azure too. If you want to discuss, give me a call on 1300 016 197. Thanks!Reply by Alan Norris from FNS-NetSYS on Tuesday, 14 January, 2014 - 14:06
Check here for pricing - http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/Reply by n/a from Hoplite Business Systems on Tuesday, 14 January, 2014 - 14:17
Quickbooks now offer hosted solutions for a pretty reasonable price. http://www.intuit.com.au/quickbooks-online/small-business-accounting-software-compare.jsp Having a hosted server can sometimes be pricey. I would suggest re-writing the access database to a proper web format (mysql) and incorporating it with your website. I provide web development services and hosting so if if you want to discuss, give me a call on 1300 899 946. ThanksReply by Andrew Winter from Red Bass Consulting on Tuesday, 14 January, 2014 - 14:18

Hi Warrandyte Tennis Club, Website hosting is coming down in price all the time and with advances in open source website CMS (Content Management System) packages you could incorporate all your club workings within your website. Hosting can be as little as approx $50 per year with some hosting service providers. Just remember you get what you pay for but with some help from someone who is reasonably web savvy, you can manage it all yourself. I'm involved in several clubs and manage memberships, invoicing, email communications, and finance reports all from the website. My personal preference is for Joomla! CMS and Wordpress (I noticed your site is using) can be converted reasonably easily. Give me a call or email if you wish to discuss further. Hi, I'd start by looking at your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They normally provide a free website for their subscribers. You could move your website and point your domain name at the new site. Membership systems are a bit different. You can have a "hosted" PC or Server where you run your Access membership and even QuickBooks on that hosted machine (like the Azure suggestions), or you can subscribe to a member system like Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online (available through ConnectingUp) or hosted iMIS 100. QuickBooks can be put in the cloud, but I'm not certain if the Australian version of QuickBooks is available there. I know MYOB offer a cloud based services and this may also be offered at a discount through ConnectingUp. Back to hosted PC's/Servers. These are available from some ISP's as well as a lot of general service providers (rackspace.com is one that comes to mind). Hope this helps.
