Symantec Software
Our organisation wants to purchase some Symantec Endpoint protection Small Business software through the donation program and we have 2 requirements, one for Admin and one for our Student labs, there are two different Servers. How do we get client licenses for these? We need 20 licenses for admin and 130 for the student labs. The product looks like the Server edition so I understand I would need 2 of those but how do I request that I would like to get the right amount of client licenses for each? Is there a different product I need to select?

Hello, Thanks for the question. Generally with most other AV providers you would purchase the total number of endpoint licenses you require. This being 20 licenses for admin and 130 for the student labs totaling in 150. The control product usually comes with the licenses as a free administration product in which you install on one of your servers and it allows you to manage the endpoints (admin and student computers). Knowing this, you are best to give Symantec a quick call as different AV providers have their own set of rules however, they all generally follow this type of structure. If you need any further advise please feel free to give us a call or drop us an email at support@apacms.com.Reply by Colin Thompson from TechBrain on Tuesday, 29 October, 2013 - 14:32
Hi There, Yes APACMS are correct. You purchase licences for the number of devices you want to cover (Desktops/laptops/servers) and when installing on the server, you can also install the management console. Hi fec.admin, Just wondering if you have considered any alternatives? There may be some advantage to looking at a vendor like Webroot. It is a discounted item rather than donated product like the Symantec solution you are looking at, and consequently it is more expensive to purchase. However, it is easier and certainly quicker to deploy and is managed via a cloud based console. if you look at a site like AV-test.org it doesn't compare as favourably as the other vendors but it does work differently which I think is one of its values. If you'd like to chat about the value Webroot may be bale to offer you I'd be happy to have a chat. Regards Jason Ross EthiSEC Pty Ltd - 1300 67 22 75
