MS Office for MAC issue after installing Outlook
Hello I recently bought and installed Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 on my MacBook Pro. It already had MS Office 2011 'Home and Student' which was installed in April 2012. When I installed Outlook (yesterday afternoon), there were a couple of strange things happening, one of which was that it showed 24 items in the Drafts folder when there were only 2. Now, the installation of Outlook appears to have affected the other applications in the MS Office suite. Namely: Excel won't open at all and issues a 'send report' error message Word and Powerpoint have icons muddled up on the menu ribbon, e.g. Save is now a pair of scissors, etc. I'm assuming that the programs communicate with each other and the installation of Outlook as a separate item has thrown a spanner in the works somehow. I hope this is enough information to be going on with. Thank you for your time and assistance, Jo

Hi Jo, it sounds easier to re-install the entire Mac Office 2011 than trying to figure out how to fix the problems. Carlson.Reply by Neil McLachlan from Co Serve Consulting on Tuesday, 9 July, 2013 - 13:37
Hello Jo I think your issue is possibly due to incompatible licensing - and is true for Windows versions as well I believe. The following statement is posted on at least one Microsoft support website: "The Home & Student version of Office for Mac cannot be used for business-related work. That is a violation of the license agreement. You can upgrade Home & Student to the Home & Business version using the in-app purchase process. Home & Business includes Outlook, which means you'll only have to worry about one license key for all of Office" http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/office-2011-home-student-with-outlook-2011-stand/5b1af9d1-363c-47b0-842c-21a2076a53c3 You will nevertheless need to uninstall and reinstall the software - with the correct licensing if that is the issue. Hi Jo, If you have been using time machine to backup your Mac, you could always revert back to the last backup before you installed outlook. Remember this will roll back everything to the restore date. To restore the entire machine (Backup your files first), then follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 Restoring your entire system from a backup If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Recovery system (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Regards Colin Thompson Community @bluenetworks.com.au http://www.bluenetworks.com.au
