"Dial - In" Access to Internal Network
1. We have a very small internal wireless network where all our internal PC's can access. 2. We run MYOB for our accounting system. 3. We are a Microsoft shop - Windows 7 Our challenge is that we would like to be able to "dial-in" remotely to the internal network from anyhere in Australia and access MYOB to process, transactions and run reports. Is this possible? Thanks

The short answer is yes. There a number of ways to achieve this but the most user friendly method is to employ a third-party remote access product such as GoToMyPC or LogMeIn. If you contact me directly I can briefly take you through what's required. Hi, Yes this is possible, and there is several ways to do this. You can use third party tools or the free inbuilt ones. It would all depend on how many people externally to the network need to gain access to the internal network. Please be aware though that only one person can operate the pc at a time be it internal or external. You will also require a business grade internet connection to ensure good connectivity to the internal network all the time. Please send me an email or call us on 0734534125 to discuss this further if you like. (for security reasons on your network, this better done one to one)Reply by Colin Thompson from TechBrain on Tuesday, 29 January, 2013 - 12:53
Hi Tim, Many ADSL modems these days provide simple VPN servers. You should check yours to see if it has a configuration option for VPN and if so, it is a simple matter to enable the VPN service and configure accounts. I would not recommend using software based VPN including the built in VPN software on Windows unless you are running a server. Once you enable VPN, you configure the VPN client on your PC's and connect up. Then you would connect direct to the PC that you want to control and away you go (Don't forget to fix the IP address of the PC you are going to control). A business grade DSL service is the "Best" solution but it will work just fine on a standard ADSL service also. Again, you can improve/control the performance a bit by setting up Quality of Service on the modem. MYOB is in the cloud now. They have a product call live accounts which lets you (for a fee) access your MYOB file from anywhere. We have moved our NZ division to it and would be happy to assist. regards, Lachlan NetCareIT 02 9114 9920
