Microsoft SQL Server
We use a main server and 7 connected workstations. We currently use Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2010 we purchased through DonorTec. Do we need to purchase a SQL Server as an addition? and if so, do we also need a CAL for each workstation? Thanks

Hi, unless you are running an application that requires a SQL, then there should be no reason that you would need to purchase SQL. If you do use an application that requires SQL, it will depend which version of SQL you buy as to whether you will need SQL CALS. SQL Standard (suitable for your size organisation) can be purchased as a "Server+Cal" model or as a "Per processor Core" model. If you purchase it as Server+CALs then you will need a CAL for every user or device that will be accessing SQL. If you purchase it as a "Per Core" model then you do not need CALs. The trade off is usually cost, with "Per Core" pricing generally only being cost effective for larger organisations. Of course under DonorTec, the pricing can put the cost of the 'per core" licensing model well within the reach of most smaller organsiations. And would certainly make license management a lot easier and less complicated. Kind Regards Chris McAvinue www.itleaders.com.au 1300 596 560
