SQL Server License

I am wondering if we buy the Core based SQL server license, can it be used on a cloud server that we use to host our website? It will be a dedicated server but I am not sure whether we have the right to use it on a server that is not on premise. If we can, do we have to obtain License Mobility Agreement from Microsoft and how? Kind Regards, Henry

Hi There. Not sure if you got your answer but I do not believe that is the case. License mobility, which allows you to extend licences to the cloud, does not apply to Windows server...only applications like SQL, Exchange, Sharepoint etc. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/9/b/79bd917e-760b-48b6-a266-796b3e47c47a/License_Mobility_through_Microsoft_Software_Assurance_Overview.pdf) Regards Colin Thompson Community (at) bluenetworks.com.au http://www.bluenetworks.com.auReply by Colin Thompson from TechBrain on Thursday, 14 May, 2015 - 12:24
Sorry, just re-read and realised you ARE talking about SQL server....so the answer is YES...you have license mobility rights which will allow you to assign the license to the cloud providers farm. Because you get SA with the ConectingUp licences you get license mobility for SQL. Colin Thompson Community (at) bluenetworks.com.au http://www.bluenetworks.com.au
