Hello I want to setup the new Symantec Backup Exec 2014 It says that backup to the cloud is possible. I am thinking of backing up to Google cloud http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/pricing.html Has anyone does this? Is it possible? Regards

Hi, It should be possible, the google drive product works like an online drive. The issue you may have is speed over the internet depending on where you are, and the amount of included data in your plan. A better solution might a dedicated product that only puts the increment changes in the cloud. We have a solution from storage craft which we can do by the month, that might be just as cost effective and will work on all broadband type connections. But if you want to use backup exec i would suggest using a local copy and then archiving on Google drive as a secondary copy.Reply by David Sia from Techware on Friday, 12 September, 2014 - 15:04
Hi Paul, The cloud backup should always be accompanied with a local backup storage. We don't recommend that you rely on cloud alone. If you are storing your entire backup file to the cloud, you may face challenges with file synching with large file size. What are you hoping to achieve with cloud? Offsite DR? Offsite Archive? File synch? There are different solutions depending on your objectives.Reply by Troy Cowin from Perth Systems Pty Ltd on Friday, 12 September, 2014 - 15:35
As mentioned by the other posters, be wary of only backing up to the cloud. Asides from the issues faced by moving that much data to the cloud in the first place, the largest issue we've found is the recovery time. A full backup of 100-200GB of data can take days to download again. Also worth checking whether there's any legal implications to you storing data off shore too.
