Sharepoint on new Windows 2012 server
Hi, I have just setup a new Windows 2012 server which I intend to use as a replacement for an existing Window 2003 server that is used for file sharing and to run the existing Intranet. Management now would like to have Sharepoint installed onto the same server, however it appears that I cannot do this until SP2 for sharepoint 2010 is released (or Sharepoint 2013). Is this correct, or do I have other options ? Are there dates when either are is expected to be available ? Thanks Phil

Hi Phil, Have done a bit research and you can get it running on win 2012, but looks a bit complicated as you have to make sure you have all the pre-requites that the 2010 version needs. The best and quickest solution to this would be to run a virtual sharepoint server using hyper-v. Depending on the version of win 2012 you have, you maybe are already licenced for this as well. This way you can run the version of windows server you need, and then migrate it to the physical later if required, when the service pack is released. But have found no issues running sharepoint as virtual servers for many clients. As for the dates there has been no set date for these releases yet. If you need anymore info please feel free to email us. Thanks GrantReply by n/a from Malloy Enterprises on Tuesday, 13 November, 2012 - 21:52
Also, is the existing (and only, it seems) server a Domain Controller? At a minimum having SharePoint on a DC is 'undesirable', and I'd have to check but I think it's also not 'officially supported'.
