Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 Essential
We are not sure which product to purchase - we believe for the size of our organisation 5-10 staff it is could be SBS 2011 Essentials. An important feature we need is remote access to our server and when reading the documentation, it states if you purchase the essential you do not need to purchase CAL licences. Can you confirm that we would be getting remote access for up to 10 staff and that this would be the best package for use to purchase.

Hi, For under 25 staff the essentials product is a good option, but you have to remember that the email part is hosted in the cloud. Yes there is an option to have remote access through remote web access, but you will still need to leave your desktops on in the office for this. unless you try and sync the files to the mobile devices and resync when you come back into the office. The better option for 10 staff would be to run a terminal server or remote dekstop server then all your applications files and emails are in the same place, and this way you can run the full version of sbs standard as well. this means the email is stored onsite. There is also some other benefits to standard that are not included in essentials. This solution can also be be totally hosted if you don't want to worry about the server hardware and management. the other benefits to running a RDS server is that you no longer have to worry about the hardware you use to connect to the server, it can be desktops, thin clients, notebooks/laptops, tablets, etc. all you need is an internet connection to work remotely. If you want to discuss this or have any over questions, feel free to give us a call or email. Thanks Grant
